NAFC MMIWG2S+ Implementation Plan
The NAFC has partnered with several committees and working groups to develop support for ongoing MMIWG2S+ action pathways. We have been heavily involved in the Urban Sub Working Group (USWG) and continue to support the ongoing work of the MMWIG and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People National Action Plan.
Most recently, the NAFC has established a Steering Committee to inform the development of an implementation process that outlines the actions reflected in the Urban Path to Reclaiming Power and Place, Regardless of Residency as well as NAFC’s Honouring our Ways. This Steering Committee, supported by the NAFC policy team, will establish a workplan to enhance the safety of Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse people in urban, rural, and remote communities. Including representation from all regions will help to ensure that a national implementation plan is reflective of unique communities from coast-to-coast-to-coast.
The Steering Committee’s membership will comprise of:
- One representative from FC’s and PTAs in each provincial and territorial region (13) that are involved in programs and services relating to anti-violence, gender advocacy, and MMIWG2S+
- One Senator from the NAFCs Senate
- Two Youth Representatives from the NAFCs Indigenous Youth Council
This co-development opportunity will guide us on how we implement action items that are within the scope of Friendship Centres and support the well-being and safety of Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people in each of our respective communities.
