First Nations Drinking Water Settlement
The Courts have approved an $8 billion settlement between Canada and First Nations and their members who were impacted by a long-term drinking water advisory that lasted at least one year between November 20, 1995 and June 20, 2021.
Eligible individuals, including minors, may be eligible for compensation if they:
- Are a member of a First Nation; and
- Had not passed away before November 20, 2017; and
- Lived on a First Nation during a long-term drinking water advisory
You may also be eligible to apply on behalf of a claimant who is a minor, those with mental incapacity (under disability) and those who passed away on or after November 20, 2017.
Check the list or explore the map of Impacted First Nations to see if your First Nation is on the list.
The deadline to submit a Claim Form is March 7, 2024.
